In February 2020, Classic Trains is celebrating the history, heritage, and splendor of the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad. Enjoy this photo gallery, originally published online in September 2016, as the perfect salute to the Nickel Plate Road.
Return each week for another salute to the railroad of the month!
NKP’s 11 PAs were traded in to Alco in 1961-62 for a like quantity of RS36s, two of them steam-generator-equipped for passenger service. The WAB PAs were retired in the same general timeframe, but I will defer to WAB scholars on the details.
Being a fan of the NKP and especially how it pertains to the 1964 merger with NW, I still have not found an exact source for what happened to NKP’s PA’s and or WAB’s PA’s. Any thoughts?
