Modified service continues on NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line
Modified service will continue through the holiday weekend on NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line as a result of a Tuesday morning derailment. As of Thursday, trains are operating on the entire line on a schedule with service every two hours for the Hazlet, Middletown, Red Bank, and Little Silver stations, with all other stations serviced hourly. Shuttle connections in Long Branch will be maintained. The full modified schedule is available here.

Ottawa council approves route for Barrhaven extension
Ottawa’s city council has approved the route for the third stage of its light rail project, an extension to the southwestern suburban neighborhood of Barrhaven, a plan that will require demolition of 120 homes. Global News reports that the project, and its related displacement of residents, is still years away because no federal or provincial funding has yet been committed.

Eurostar, hammered by pandemic restrictions, asks for aid
Cross-English Channel rail service Eurostar has told the British government it is urgent need of financial support and is “fighting for survival” because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Guardian reports that the service is operating just one train a day and that, with a new round of travel restrictions in effect, ridership is currently believed to be less than 1% of pre-COVID numbers. Eurostar’s chief executive has asked for assistance in the wake of the government’s announcement it would provide up to 8 million pounds of assistance to airports. The company has also asked for a revewi of access charges for the UK portion of its high speed route.
