Bombardier to provide maintenance for Toronto’s Finch West light railBombardier logo
Bombardier has signed a 30-year contract to maintain Toronto’s Finch West Light Rail Transit project. Under the contract, Bombardier will maintain the light rail vehicles, track, and catenary for the system being built by a public-private partnership of transit agency Metrolinx, Infrastructure Ontario, and Mosaic Transit Group. Bombardier will be a subcontractor to Mosaic Transit Partners Maintenance GP. Elliot G. (Lee) Sander, president, Americas Region, Bombardier Transportation, said the company was “delighted” to be part of the project. “We bring our deep understanding of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area region and our extensive experience as a provider of mobility solutions and participant in PPPs to ensure that Finch West LRT will provide the same high level of safe, efficient and reliable transportation as the rest of the Metrolinx network,” Sander said in a press release. The 6.8-mile, 18-station light rail line is expected to begin operation in 2023.

Coroner investigating KCS ‘on the job death’ in Mississippi
The Lee County (Miss.) coroner’s office is investigating the death of a Kansas City Southern worker on Wednesday morning in Tupelo, Miss. WTVA-TV reports Coroner Carolyn Green describes the incident as an “on the job death” after emergency responders were called to the accident scene along the railroad’s tracks about 7 a.m. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives. No other information is currently available.

Metrolink governing body elects new officers
The Southern California Regional Rail Authority Board of Directors, the governing body of Metrolink commuter rail service, has elected Ara Najarian as its next chairman. Najarian, the LA Metro representative and a City of Glendale council member, replaces Brian Humphrey of the Ventura County Transportation Commission as chairman, effective Jan. 1. San Bernardino County Transportation Authority representative and Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon was elected first vice chair and Orange County Transportation Authority representative and county supervisor Doug Chaffee was elected as second vice chair.
