LA Metro sets online meeting on Union Station project
LA Metro will hold an online meeting as part of the scoping process for the Link US project — which would turn LA Union Station into a run-through facility for passenger and commuter trains, instead of the current stub-end terminal alignment — on Thursday, Oct. 8. The session will also address proposed improvements to BNSF Railways Malabar Yard in Vernon, Calif. The meeting will be held 6-8 p.m. Pacific time, with a 30-minute presentation followed by 90 minutes of comments. NJ Transit customer advocate departs; agency will ‘re-examine’ position
NJ Transit’s first customer advocate and experience officer has left the position after just 18 months, after repeated criticism for functioning as more of a supporter for the agency than for riders. NJ.com reports an NJ Transit memo from CEO Kevin Corbett confirmed the departure of Stewart Mader as of Oct. 2, and said the agency “will take this opportunity to re-examine the position in its entirety, including the qualifications of a replacement candidate as well the position’s location in our organizational structure.” The customer advocate position was created in a 2018 NJ Transit reform bill.
Jonesboro, Ark., lands grants for railcar storage facility
Jonesboro, Ark., has received federal and regional grants totaling more than $2.5 million to build a storage facility capable of holding up to 120 railcars to support local industrial park tenants. The website Talk Business & Politics reports funds will include $2 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and $509,000 from the Delta Regional Authority.
