Tri-Rail to add service on Oct. 19
South Florida commuter railroad Tri-Rail will increase service on Monday, Oct. 19, reaching 92% of its pre-pandemic service level. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Tri-Rail service will begin operating 46 trains on weekdays and 28 on weekends. It will be the fourth increase since Tri-Rail cut service in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic; the last increase came Sept. 16, to 35 weekday trains and 15 on weekends [see “Digest: Tri-Rail to add trains,” Trains News Wire, Sept. 14, 2020]
Massachusetts man killed in short line accident
A 59-year-old man working on a shortline track replacement project in Canaan, Conn., was killed Wednesday when run over by a piece of heavy equipment. The Waterbury Republican American reports Warren Thomson, of Monterey, Mass., was working on a Housatonic Railroad project when he was hit by an excavator in an accident about 2:45 p.m. State Police and the Federal Railroad Administration are investigating.
REMSA names two new board members
The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association elected two new members for its board of directors at its annual membership meeting earlier this week. Joining the board are Doug Combs, vice president of North America, Harsco Rail, and Rob Rosencrans, general manager, rail services-North America, Holland Company. They will begin their two-year terms on the board on Jan. 1, 2021. “Both Mr. Combs and Mr. Rosencrans are exceptional candidates and we look forward to seeing their impact on the REMSA board and the association at large,” RESMA Executive Director/CEO David Tennent said in a press release. “We trust Doug and Rob will continue to build on the association’s achievements and growth.”
