At least seven cars of this Canadian National train derailed Monday in West Chicago, Ill.

Canadian National’s Elgin, Joliet & Eastern heritage locomotive narrowly missed being a part of Monday’s derailment on the former EJ&E in West Chicago, Ill. [See “Digest: CN derails train …,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 15, 2021.] Eight cars immediately behind that locomotive, the trailing unit on a northbound train, derailed as the train traveled north past Tower JB at the CN-Union Pacific diamond. CN reports no one was injured. Metra reported on Twitter at about 1:30 p.m. that the portion of the train blocking the UP trains has been removed, allowing UP West line commuter trains to resume operation, but delays may still be possible.
