Colebrookdale Railroad to host ride for those with autism, other sensory sensitivities

The Colebrookdale Railroad in Boyerstown, Pa., will host a “Sensory Friendly Saturday” train ride, specifically designed for those with autism or other sensory sensitivities, on March 27. The Sanatoga Post reports the event planned by the Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust. Features will include a parlor car designated as a quiet car for those who wish to be away from sound and other activities while enjoying the ride; visitors with sound sensitivities are invited to bring headphones to block out sounds that may be overwhelming, and are invited to bring a sensory or fidget toy. Complimentary coloring books and crayons will be provided. Efforts will be made to stagger boarding times for those who experience anxieties from waiting in long lines. Advance tickets are available here. For more information on the Colebrookdale Railroad, visit the railroad’s website.

Cornwall, Ontario, to donate engine, pay for move to museum

The city of Cornwall, Ontario, has agreed to donate an electric locomotive on display in the community to the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario in Smiths Falls, with the city providing the $50,000 needed for the 80-mile relocation. CTV News reports the former Cornwall Street Railway locomotive, a steeple-cab built by Baldwin, is in need of repairs estimated at $100,000 in 2016. The president of the museum’s board of trustees says the museum will “refurbish it as best we can. The engine has been terribly neglected.” The decision to donate the locomotive, said to be the last electric locomotive to operate in Canada, came after an earlier legal determination that the city was under no obligation to continue to display the donated item [see “Digest: Oregon commuter railroad operation …,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 2, 2021].
