Donald E. (Don) Fiehmann of San Jose, Calif., passed away from complications due to heart failure in December. He was 86 years old.
Don wrote more than 60 articles for Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman magazines. In addition, he was the author of three Kalmbach books: Basic Electricity for Model Railroading (1988), The DCC Guide (2007), and The DCC Guide, Second Edition (2014).
Don was also well known for his many electronics projects. The Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society has been using his “Fiehmann Throttle” for the past 46 years as its primary speed control system. Don also had one of the first radio controlled HO model. At the PCR convention in 1986, he was the hit if the banquet when he ran his A-B Diesel unit across the head table with no track! Rest in peace Don, you were a great friend and a talented innovator in the hobby.
I enjoyed many hours of reading Model Railroading articles including Don’s. RIP.
May he always rest in peace. i enjoyed his work and still have his first book. Blessings
