Several years ago, TRAINS devoted nearly an entire issue to the E7. It was entitled “The E7 Experience “. I wish I had saved that copy.

When I hired with the NYC in 1963 we (I believe had all our E units). I know we had the 4000.
Looks like this unit had already been “christened” during a grade crossing encounter.
