Having stopped their train for an official photo, the head-end crew crowds the right side of the cab to watch the photographer do his work. Berkshires 201 and 202 were Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo’s top freight power.

Phosphate for Port Maitland


Three Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Geeps and two switchers hoist 60 cars of crushed phosphate rock east from Hamilton in February 1983. The train is bound for a fertilizer plant at Port Maitland on Lake Erie.

Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo GP7 72 and GP9 402 lead Canadian Pacific’s Cobourg Turn east from Toronto on April 28, 1976. As one of TH&B’s parents, CP would sometimes borrow the smaller road’s power.
