CONCORD, N.C. — Lionel, the famed toy train manufacturer, is closing its corporate headquarters and has employees working remotely.
In an email sent to customers and read by Classic Toy Trains, Lionel CEO Howard Hitchcock writes that the company is closing its North Carolina headquarters to comply with local government orders. The email does not mention coronavirus or the world-wide pandemic, but refers to Lionel’s endurance during the Great Depression and World War II and that the company faces “a threat of a very different kind.”
Although the company’s customer service workers will still receive and respond to inquiries, the company’s warehouse and store in Concord Mills are closed, product servicing is suspended and the company’s online stores LionelRacing.com and LionelStore.com will not ship orders until the company re-opens.
Customers are encouraged to follow Lionel on social media for updates and additional information on the company’s status.
