USA Track LLC has been in business for 15 years, manufacturing Standard gauge track. Owners Kirk Lindvig and Chris Bogus offer four diameters of curve track and four lengths of straight track. All components of USA Track are made in the U.S.

Classic Toy Trains received four pieces of the Super Standard gauge track. It’s the same rail as the regular Standard gauge track, but with extra ties. For instance, a 14” straight regular piece is available with either 4 or 6 ties. The Super pieces sent to us have 10-11 ties.

This track is both solid and well made. Each piece also has a nice “heft” to it. For comparison, I borrowed a vintage Lionel Standard gauge track from Sommerfeld’s Trains in Butler, Wis. If I had to pick one brand for a Standard gauge layout, I’d choose the USA Track.

When I first tried to connect the pieces, however, it wasn’t an easy “push together” fit. I contacted Lindvig and discovered why. The pins are intentionally a bit oversized for better electrical continuity. He suggest aligning the pins and then tapping on the end of one track section. I used a rubber mallet, gently tapping the end of each rail until the pieces snugly fit together.

Unhooking the pieces requires a bit of patience. I found you could slowly pull one outer rail, then alternate to the other until they release. If you’re having trouble, USA Track has tips for installing their track on their website.

According to the manufacturer, USA Track is compatible with other brands of vintage Standard gauge track and switches, and Ross Custom Switches. It is not compatible with GarGraves or plastic roadbed MTH track. In addition to their regular products, they will work with hobbyists looking for special pieces. Email them for more information.

If you’re considering a Standard gauge layout (or want to replace track on an existing layout), take a look at USA Track. It’s a quality product.
