Drew Madere built his 11 x 20-foot layout in his garage and created an O gauge railroad based on his memories of growing up in rural Louisiana. Watch his trains in action in the video below.

  1. Really enjoyed watching the video of your layout–a lot packed into a small area-great detail. Reminds me of the area around wonderful Leesville, Louisiana where I spent six long months once! Enjoyed the article in the March issue also!

  2. Thanks everyone for all the great support I enjoy doing modeling railroading.

I like the grain elevator . How did you build it?

Craig, I used 2 1/2 PVC drain pipe thin wall from Lows and 1/4 PVC sheeting from a distributor called AL-FLA Plastics. Hope this helps?

Perhaps some one could suggest where I could find a grain elevator like the green one on the layout?

STEFFAN you can get them on e-baylionel grain elevator are a hobby shop it just a lionel grain elevator. Hope this helps?

  3. Now that is a layout that looks real, not toy like. The scenery and buildings weathered make the train look real and a reason for operating, instead of going around in a circle. Just the right amount of scenery in a small space.

  4. A balanced and realistic model display. Nice job. Perhaps some one could suggest where I could find a grain elevator like the green one on the layout.

  5. I really like the layout! I am working on a Milwaukee Road themed layout and this layout has the look that I have in my mind for what I am trying to do. This is very nicely done. The scenery and buildings are "just right". Hats off to Drew on a GREAT JOB!

  6. Very realistic with just the right amount of detail ! Enjoyed it very much but wish the video was longer !

  7. I've been reading Drew's blog for a couple of years and it's nice to finally see his layout published. Great layout, Drew. Too bad no one offers ICG Paducah-rebuilt engines, right?

  8. Really nice layout and, since he's a member of South West Alabama Railroad Modelers in our area, I've seen it in action! Very realistic without adding enough detail to be distracting. Glad it's being featured.
