  1. Great looking giant layout, nicely done, lots of money spent , now I`m going to take my two sheets of plywood and trains to the curb for the trash man, can use the room in the garage, don`t have enough space or cash to make something this nice.

  2. Peter’s trains and layout always pleases! That is quite an assortment of passenger trains with constant lighting and passengers inside. They look great! I hope to see a more full view of the canyon and bridge mentioned in the article. I don’t mean to complain, I liked the article and video very much!!!

  3. Peter & CTT — Great article on this great Layout! Jealous of your wonderful sq. ft. of Layout. Terrific attention to detail and super track plan.

I was going to expand my comments on too much video of Night Time footage — but it appears other readers had the same thoughts as mine, thus won’t repeat what other readers mentioned.

Thank you for sharing your great model RR with us readers of CTT..

  4. Well done — I’ve tried this myself a few times, and getting just the right balance to show details without just a blur headlights and still capture that night feel is no easy task. Very well done!

  5. Well, I thought it was pretty good, and Charles said it was meant to be a nighttime scene. From a video point of view, it would have been a nice contrast for a ‘quiet gap’ between trains – surely even in the US you don’t have trains running continuously! However, I appreciate we are watching ‘toy trains’ which invariably do run constantly.

  6. I would like to know where to purchase O gauge chain link fencing as shown in the video. And if that is not possible, how could I fabricate something that looks like chain link fencing?

  7. Thanks for the comments from those of you who enjoyed the video. It was an experiment to see if I could get a video of trains running from sunset into the evening.

It was shot in the late afternoon and as I suspect, many of us who try to do nightime videos in the actual night, realize that all you get is moving lights! I found by shooting in late afternoon gave me a realtime darkening of the layout. Sorry about the panning shows where the train went into the direct light from a window, I should have edited those parts out.

For those who would like to see some “daylight” videos, please go to my UTube page.

PS: the chain link fencing is made from a Brennan’s kit.

  8. C’mon guys—the theme WAS “Nighttime on the S & P”….so of course it it was dark! I thought he did a great job with a slightly different take on a layout video. I enjoyed all the lighting effects and the visible interiors of passenger cars and buildings. Yes, the daylight coming in the layout room windows should have been addressed…and yes, I would like to see some daylight videos (pun intended!) as well. But overall, I was impressed!

  9. DID he pay the light bill tell Mr Demill you need a little more light to so night did he look at it before he posted it how about classic toy trains look at it sham

  10. I agree with David Osborn plus, the sunlight coming in the train room windows kinda destroys the illusion.

  11. Video taping a layout in the dark is pointless. The purpose of the video is to see and enjoy the layout. This can not be done in the dark. Too much of this video is done at night or in the dark. After watching this dark video I still do not know any of the layout detail scenes. I feel like I wasted my time watching this video.
