Name:
   Frank Heynick
Railroad Name:    Mini-Gotham
Location:    Brooklyn, New York
Scale:    O
Theme:    Skyscraper City
Description:    The video differs from anything else you’ve seen, since it is filmed in an O-scale metropolis with scratch-built skyscrapers rising to six feet in height and involves a story, an adventure of sorts.
The first half of the video (after the initial teaser and credits) is in fact a sightseeing tour revolving mostly around the stations, terminals, subways, elevated lines, trolleys and passenger and freight trains of Mini-Gotham. These continue to serve as the backdrop in the second half, where the story of a giant cat and a mutant rat plays out, climaxing in an aircraft battle atop a skyscraper pinnacle.

  1. I really liked this video. I have had cats my whole life and been a model train operator also. Needless to say most of my cats liked to explore my layout with simular results to my layout. However I also had some cats that could visit and do no damage. I never took any video but one of my favorite still shots was of my one cat that liked to nap in one of my tunnels. I took a picture of him chalanging one of my steam engines that wanted to pass through. After several whistle blasts he finally came out and let my train pass through. I also knew Gotham had a subway rat problem but your rat sure would scare any subway rider. Keep having fun with your well detailed layout and hopefully kitty and rat wouldn’t cause too much more damage.

  2. ???????? I don’t appreciate senseless destruction. I’m sorry but I do not think it is very amusing at all and I am surprised CTT even put it on their site!

  3. Great big city scenery. I’m from Chicago and this is the scenery I see. Loved the video, thought it was great. My can and I give it 4 stars!!

  4. Very funny. Drives me crazy when our cat sneaks on to my layout. Amazingly they can get around so nimbly. I have chased him off using a small RC helicopter. Like Timmy, Oreo does not like it and runs when he hears it.

  5. That was fantastic. I figured the rat was done for. The cat stole the show. You should get a Grammy or Peoples Choice trophy. Made my night.

  6. Best train layout video I've ever seen, by far. Not only does it have a story, cute animals, and fabulous model work, it has really superb camera work – something rarely paired with miniature train videos. I especially enjoyed the onboard shots and the camera flying down the concrete canyons. It's not easy sustaining a half hour, but this does it! There's a Franklin & South Manchester video that shows off the spectacular realism and almost gothic urban decay of that layout, but although this one is "toy" trains, the show is great. Demonstrates what a little imagination and a GoPro (or similar) can do. Well done!

  7. This actually brought back memories! When I was young our cat used to jump onto my Lionel train layout, walk through the town, climb over the mountain, and poke a nose and paw into the tunnel. There were quite a few times I found the cat sprawled across the freight yard, napping. One time when I was running the trains my siblings suddenly threw the cat on the layout and yelled, "Japanese horror movie!" – no joke, they really did! In a rush to get away the frightened cat did to my Lionel trains what Godzilla did to Tokyo.

  8. Love cats & love trains. Great layout and very funny and entertaining video. Thank you! and I agree with the Dr. lighten up guys remember we build our layouts for our own enjoyment to do with what we please.

  9. Brilliant video. LOL. And I get upset when the Spaniel plucks switch lamps and lamp post tops off the Christmas layout and chews them into a pulpy mass.

  10. Loved the layout. Good story, good photography. My favorite shot=rat coming up out of subway-how fitting. Really enjoyed video. Now all the work crews have to repair the city.
Thank you for an entertaining video.

  11. Lighten up, guys. Some caved-in roofs, uprooted trees, collapsed train platforms, and the like. So what?! Model train videos seldom attract viewers from outside our hobby community. This video, telling an adventure story with a mischievous feline, has already drawn tens of thousands from a broader public to the model train world. Watch the whole video, enjoy the trains and sights, and don’t worry too much about the damage. If you’d like a Kong-free tour of the layout, go to: Mini-Gotham.com

  12. Well……. just my opinion , but why someone would let a few animals destroy a beautiful layout is beyond my scope. Had to stop watching after 2 min .

  13. SUPER !!!
My 7 month old Boston Terrier puppy sat on my lap and watched this entire show and enjoyed it as much as I did. Great job.
