When I first saw the article I was very impressed. It shows what can be done in such a small space and yet still be able to run larger equipment. As it turns out, the space I have available for my new layout in our new house is almost the same as Mr. Ørneholm's; I have about 6"' more width. This is going to be a key inspiration for mine, and with the new engine terminal addition as in the September 2013 MR, it is a very complete yet compact layout. Well done to Mr. Ørneholm.
I am Building this Layout in my basement with a few minor adjustments instead of the Hight being 57" Tall… I decided to go with 55" I thought once the Railbed was layed with all the risers & stuff it would be a tad too high for viewing… I also am doing a 2 track mainline & a 7ft yard / stageing area. & going to model secenery & industry that's currently in my area of Eastern PA..
This is an excellent small RR. With some personal modifications it will make a great "bedroom layout" for those of us who have downsized our homes.

Great layout for a small space. Have you solved the problem of turning trains arround at union station?
I love this plan but I wish that it had another loop so 2 trains can run without error and that the trains can run from the city scene to the country scene or the mountain scene. Even without this stuff, I LOVE THIS LAYOUT.
P.S. That liftout section is really neat.
Is it just me or does the photo in the article (#6 specifically, of the urban area) have a different track layout than the one shown in the drawing of the layout? Specifically, it looks like some of the turnouts in the photo are actually slip switches instead of single turnouts like the drawing indicates.
Is there a list of track materials for this? If someone has them that would be great! !!!!

Interesting how Flemming and Pelle built excellent US western model railroads in Europe. Perhaps they see things we don't notice in everyday life. In any case, the work is fantastic.
Very nice layout with many main line routing opportunities. I may try this one out in N-scale.
This one is a real beauty for a small space layout. There is only one problem though, there must be a simpler way to turn the train around at union station and eagle creek station rather than dragging the whole train around the layout to the return loop
