  2. Mr Stephen Williams, – would you please be so kind as to permit me to contact you? I would like to build something similar to what you have done , but in N Scale. Obviously, I can download the track plan here, but would very much like some more photos of construction, elevations, turnouts etc. I have "great model railroads" 2012 and it has some very nice photos, but none of the overall setup (only one 1/2) view of the middle row. Sure would appreciate it and hope I am not stepping out of line !! My email is itginternet@gmail.com if you wish.

  3. You can find the plans in a Baltimore and Ohio Historical Society publication called "Scans From The Archives." Not sure if its Volume III, IV or V (I'm on tour right now so I can't check). Anyhow, these are plans from the book on Grafton freight facilities. I l searched the internet for plans to build a wharf coal dock for years before I realized I already had them. It's a little confusing because the coal dock is labeled "sand house" (which was part of the structure of the coal dock of course). On close examination you'll see the first coal pocket on the right side. You'll have to extrapolate from there but it will make a good basis for building the one in you want to model in Glenwood. The book also has detailed plans for the approaches, including the bents, the switch and stair cases.

Since you're a B&O guy I'm sure you are familiar with the concrete coaling tower that was located in Grafton. I don't know if this wharf style coal dock was ever built but I'm thinking probably not. I've never read any mention of it.

    Good luck on your layout!

  4. I am re-starting my interest in model (scale) railroading as an adult (last as a chile. The layout "HO scale Fairmont, Morgantown & Pittsburgh (“The Sheepskin”)" now resides in my 'potential' folder. Thank you all.

  5. I also model the B&O in the same time frame and although my layout is only in the planing stage at the moment I have amassed a large collection of steamers I would love to get copies of your coal dock plans it is just like the one in Pittsburghs Glenwood yard where I grew up good luck with your layout and hope it gives you years of fun
