Broadway Limited Imports is bringing the Norfolk & Western class Y6b 2-8-8-2 steam locomotive to N scale. The model is scheduled for release in October.
Initial paint schemes on the model will be Norfolk & Western (as-delivered black with gold lettering in five road numbers, fictional 1960s blue scheme in one number, and fictional Tuscan Red-and-gold scheme in one number). The model will also be available painted black but unlettered. All versions will have a class 22I tender.
Features on the N scale locomotive will include a die-cast metal body and chassis; crosshead and valve gear detail; a light-emitting diode (LED) headlight; cast brass safety valves, boiler fittings, and generator detail; a turned brass bell; wire grab irons and boiler handrails; air tank, air pump, and piping details; traction tires on two axles; and cab window glazing. The class 22I tender with “doghouse” will feature an injection-molded plastic body, a die-cast metal chassis, Buckeye-style trucks will roller-bearing journal details, and an LED backup light. The Y6b will be equipped with Micro-Trains compatible front and rear couplers, a dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder, and a built-in capacitor pack.
The Y6b will operate on codes 55, 70, and 80 rail. The model has a minimum operating radius of 9.75”.
