Moloco, a manufacturer of HO scale freight cars and detail parts, is now accepting reservations for its latest car, an American Car & Foundry (ACF) 100-ton 50-foot hi-cube double-plug-door boxcar with exterior posts. The HO scale model is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The boxcar, based on a prototype used for pulp board loading, will be decorated for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (Class BX-154: April 1972 as-delivered red-and-black scheme with large circle-cross herald and “Super Shock Control” lettering in seven numbers and 1988 repaint in one number; class BX-163: April 1973 as-delivered red-and-black scheme with large circle-cross herald in six numbers and 1991 repaint with circle-cross and “quality” heralds in one number); Burlington Northern (April 1972 as-delivered scheme in nine numbers); and BNSF Ry. (1998 repaint with circle-cross herald, one number). Undecorated kits based on ATSF and BN prototypes will also be offered.
Features on the model include car-number-specific handbrakes (Ajax, Ellcon-National, Equipco, Klasing, or Universal), 8-foot plug doors, ACF draft gear, multiple door stop versions, rubber air hoses, metal corner stirrups, prototype-specific 100-ton trucks, metal wheelsets, three types of underframe configurations and/or cushioning devices, detailed Stanray ends, and Kadee scale whisker couplers.
Moloco is accepting reservations for the boxcar through December 26, 2021. The model will be priced in line with current ready-to-run freight cars.
