Nuremberg Toy Fair show report

The 2007 Nuremberg Toy Fair is being held February 1 through 6, 2007, in the show’s namesake city in Germany. Several model railroad manufacturers displayed new items at the show. Below are just some of the products featured at the six-day event. Be sure to check back for updates.
Bachmann Industries Europe had a sample of the E-Z Command Dynamis, a bidirectional wireless (infrared both ways) Digital Command Control system. The Dynamis system features 128 speed steps; 9,999 locomotive addresses; liquid-crystal display screen; configuration variable programming; joystick control for speed and on-screen selection; and control of up to 40 locomotives at one time. The Dynamis includes wireless handheld throttle, command station with wireless signal receiver, and transformer.

Bemo announced a new HO scale rotary snowplow based on a Swiss Railways prototype. The die-cast metal model is offered in a two-rail version with a Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket and a three-rail version with factory-installed DCC.

Brawa announced a German Railways class 57.4 0-10-0 steam locomotive in HO. The ready-to-run road locomotive has a five-pole motor, 8- and 21-pin Digital Command Control decoder sockets, die-cast metal frame, and European NEM couplers. The model is scheduled for release in late 2007.

United States-prototype street lights were also displayed by the firm. The new HO scale products feature light-emitting diodes and pin-socket connections. The firm offers lights for platforms, parks, boulevards, and freeways.

Busch announced HO scale scenery items, including potted flowers, cucumber and tomato plants, various shades of wildgrass, a harvested cornfield, and a small lake with reeds and tall grass.

Electronic Solutions Ulm announced several new Digital Command Control (DCC) products. The ECoS Boost high-power signal amplifier will be offered in 4 amp and 8 amp versions (the latter for garden railroads). The device will work with DCC and Motorola formats and is compatible with the ECoS system and Märklin’s Central Station.

The company will also be producing the SwitchPilot and SwitchPilot extension. The SwitchPilot is a multi-protocol extension decoder that controls double-pole accessories (such as solenoid switch motors) and eight single-pole accessories. The product is compatible with DCC and Motorola formats. The Switch Pilot Extension is designed for use with motorized switch drives.

In addition, ESU will be releasing a DCC decoder test stand. The stand will have 6-, 8-, and 21-pin sockets; a terminal strip for decoders without pins; speaker; and a five-pole motor with flywheel.

Faller had many new HO scale structures and scenery items at Nuremberg. The firm’s new open-air implement shed ($43), scheduled for release in August 2007, will feature three bays for storing tractors or other agricultural equipment. Another August release will be the stable interior detail kit ($32.50), which includes hay racks with skewered rungs, horse stall partitions, and a lighting kit.

A Boy Scout camp set, scheduled for release in June, was also announced by Faller. The set includes large and small tents; a camp fire with red flickering light; benches, tables, and stools; and eight Boy Scout figures. The camp set is priced at $39.

The firm also showed trees from its scenery line, including apple, birch, cherry, and oak trees. The trees, priced at $13 each, are scheduled for release in September 2007.

Fleischman announced its new HO scale German Railways class 95 2-10-2T steam locomotive. The ready-to-run model features a five-pole motor with flywheel, NEM 651 socket for installing a Digital Command Control decoder, die-cast metal chassis, two traction tires, light-emitting-diode headlights, and European NEM couplers.

Kibri announced new European prototype injection-molded plastic vehicle and structure kits in HO scale, including a cement plant and several pieces of construction equipment.

LGB of America has released Amtrak Amfleet coaches and cafe cars. The G scale cars are decorated in Amtrak’s phase 3 paint scheme and feature metal wheelsets and interior lighting. The cars sell for $284.99 each.

Liliput announced its new HO scale Germany Railways class 5 4-6-4 steam locomotive. The model has die-cast metal running gear, side rods, and wheels, Digital Command Control decoder, smoke unit, and light-emitting-diode headlights. The 4-6-4 is scheduled for release in 2008.

Noch announced four new all-in-one HO scale diorama sets, including a children’s playground, garden plot, park, and wood storage yard. Each set includes figures, accessories, and a foam base.

The firm also announced new N scale figures, including beekeepers, construction workers, fishermen, glass installers, and street musicians.

Piko announced its 1:32-proportion structure kits, including fruit and vegetable market stands, covered railroad bridge, and Old Fallsington Feed & Seed Co. The weather-resistant kits feature moving doors.

Uhlenbrock announced the Intellibox Basic Digital Command Control (DCC) cab. The device has 128 speed steps; 9,999 locomotive addresses; and is compatible with Motorola and DCC formats.

Zimo announced new Digital Command Control items. The MX31ZL cab features a built-in mini command station and its own power supply. The cab measures and displays track power, has a built-in detector for bidirectional communications, and Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports for joy sticks and computer conections.

The firm also had several large scale locomotive enhancement boards for retrofitting MX690-series sound decoders. The boards are offered with screw terminals for 36 connections, 24-pin plug-in connectors, 10W audio amplifier for 4 ohm or higher speakers, and built-in storage capacitors for motor and audio backup power.

In addition, Zimo displayed the ESTWGJ centralized traffic control (CTC) dispatching software. Based on a German Railways SpDrS60 dispatcher panel, the software can be used with a touch screen that allows the actuation and registration of two buttons at once.
