Rapido Trains is ringing in 2022 with another exciting steam announcement. Canadian Pacific (CP) Class H1a and H1b 4-6-4 Hudsons will be joining the HO scale Icons of Canadian Steam product range.
The models will have road-number-specific details; separate, factory-applied handrails and grab irons; blackened metal wheels and driving rods; correct cylinders and valve gear; complete piping, underbody, and tender details; coal tenders for regular service units; an oil tender for the post-restoration version of no. 2816; a Digital Command Control-operated flickering firebox and working headlight, classification lights, interior cab light, and back-up lights; and metal Macdonald-Cartier couplers. The steam locomotives have a minimum recommended radius of 22”.
Sound-equipped models will feature synchronized chuff, whistle, bell, air pump, generator, safety valve, and other sound effects. Not all sound features will function in direct current.
Paint schemes and variations on the CP Class H1a and H1b Hudsons will include as-delivered (early walkway, with and without smoke deflectors), “Spans the World” (late walkway, with and without smoke deflectors), beaver shield herald (late walkway, with and without smoke deflectors), and no. 2816 excursion (ditch lights and oil tender, with dual-mode sound decoder only).
A release date hasn’t been set for the 4-6-4s. Direct-current models will sell for $599.95. Models with a dual-mode sound decoder will be priced at $699.95. The special edition CP no. 2816 excursion unit will retail for $749.95.
