Rapido Trains announced that it will be offering a Great Northern 40-foot 12-panel boxcar in HO scale. The release date for the model has yet to be announced.
The car will be offered in two versions. Boxcars with early improved Dreadnaught ends will be painted Mineral Red, Vermillion Red, Glacier Green, and Omaha Orange and Pullman Green. Cars with late improved Dreadnaught ends will be decorated in the Big Sky Blue, Omaha Orange and Pullman Green, Mineral Red, and Vermillion Red (angled and Empire Builder lettering) schemes. Each paint scheme will be offered in six road numbers. Both body styles will be offered undecorated.
Additional features on the GN boxcar will include 12-panel sides with straight side sills, a diagonal-panel roof, welded underframes, 6-foot Youngstown doors, American Steel Foundries Ride-Control trucks with metal wheelsets, and Rapido semi-scale couplers.
