Pullman-Standard 5,820-cubic-foot capacity covered hopper
A Pullman-Standard 5,820-cubic-foot capacity covered hopper was unveiled at the ScaleTrains booth during the St. Louis Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet in Collinsville, Ill., on July 29. The HO scale freight car, scheduled for release in February 2023, will be offered in the company’s Rivet Counter and Operator lines.
Road names on the Rivet Counter line model ($48.99) will include Norchem (blue with PTLX reporting marks), Exxon-Mobil (gray with XOMX marks), Novamont Corp. (gray with PLCX marks), and Pullman Transport Leasing (gray with PLCX and PTLX marks). Each paint scheme will be offered in four road numbers. Gray data only cars will be offered in two versions (early body and clerestory roof and late body with peaked roof).
The Rivet Counter line cars will have an early body with clerestory roof or late body with peaked roof as appropriate; see-through etched-metal running boards with metal grab irons and crossover platforms; factory-applied ladders with metal rungs; brake plumbing with separate air reservoir, control valve, and retainer valve; Barber S-2 100-ton trucks with raised foundry data and rotating bearing caps; 36” metal wheelsets; and body-mounted die-cast metal semi-scale standard Type E couplers.
Operator line cars ($29.99) will be decorated for Novamont Corp. (gray with PLCX marks), Exxon-Mobil (gray with XOMX marks), Gulf Oil (gray with GOCX marks), and Pullman Leasing (gray with PLCX marks) in four numbers per paint scheme.
Features on the Operator line cars will include late body with clerestory roof, molded Morton running boards with plastic grab irons and crossover platforms, Tri-Wheel roof hatches, Barber S-2 100-ton trucks with raised foundry data, 36” machined metal wheels, and body-mounted semi-scale Type E couplers. A detail kit (SXT81766) with metal grab irons, uncoupling levers, trainline hoses, and more will be sold separately.
Both versions of the PS5820 covered hopper have a minimum radius of 18” and a recommended radius of 22”. Visit the ScaleTrains website for the latest updates on the Rivet Counter and Operator line covered hoppers.
