Tangent Scale Models releases first O scale model
Tangent Scale Models released its first O scale model, the General American 1928-design 6,000-gallon three-compartment tank car. The brass model, produced in the Republic of Korea by SamModel, is available in O scale and Proto:48 versions.
Road names include Cosden & Co. Petroleum Products, Tulsa, Okla. (1929+), Celanese Chemicals (1952+ General American Transportation lease car), General American Transportation (1958+ and 1968+ black lease schemes), Magnolia Petroleum Co. (1935 silver-and-black scheme), and Protex Industries Inc. (1969+, two road numbers). Each paint scheme is offered in three numbers unless noted. Ready-to-run cars painted black but unlettered are also available.
Details on the Tangent Scale Models O scale General American 1928-design 6,000-gallon three-compartment tank car include a fully riveted body and underframe; a separate, factory-applied tank handrail, grab irons, and ladders; dome hatches and safety valves; heater line and outlet drain details; AB brakes; and woodgrain detail on the walkways. The model is equipped with Kadee No. 740 Type E couplers and sprung 50-ton solid-bearing trucks with painted 33” wheels.
The limited-run brass General American 1928-desgin 6,000-gallon three-compartment tank car is priced at $524.95. The model is only available direct from Tangent Scale Models.
Tangent Scale Models, based in Asheville, N.C., began operations in 2007. David Lehlbach is president of the family run company. In addition to the O scale tank car, Tangent has released three HO scale models in 2022: a Gunderson Bros. 6,089-cubic-foot capacity high-cube double-plug-door boxcar, a Samuel Rea Shops G41A coil steel gondola, and an Illinois Central Centralia Shops wide-vision caboose.
