Texas & Pacific 2-10-4: In 1925, the Texas & Pacific received the first 2-10-4 steam locomotive built in North America. As was the custom, the first railroad to receive a new wheel arrangement was given the honor of naming it, and the T&P selected the name “Texas” for the 2-10-4’s. Our Brass-Hybrid Series Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 model represents the second group of 2-10-4 locomotives that Lima built for the T&P in 1927 – Class I-1a. The model represents the locomotive’s “in service” appearance circa 1948.
The T&P lineage of this model is obvious and striking in that the boiler and steam jackets are painted using the T&Ps unique “Russia Iron”. Other notable features of the model are the iconic “beetle browed” Elesco Feedwater heater, appropriate T&P “shields”, correct capped or flared stack, highly detailed backhead and cab interior including engine crew, correct steam booster engine on trailing truck and correct Boxpok center drive wheels, working smoke density light, and properly designed and executed “dog house” on the massive tender. In every way imaginable, our “Texas” class locomotive is a work of art and catches perfectly the image of this major technical and operational railroad milestone and icon.
The Freedom Train “edition” represents the T&P #610 in its 1976 Freedom Train livery as it participated in the Bi-Centennial tour through Louisiana and Texas. The Southern Railway “edition” represents the T&P #610 while on lease to the Southern functioning as power for their excursion trains during the late 1970s. In addition to the prototypical models, we are offering a limited number of models painted in the beautiful T&P Eagle paint scheme. This paint scheme was never applied to the 2-10-4’s in real life.
All of the models come with our Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC sound system with synchronized puffing smoke and integral GoPack capacitors.
