On January 6th, the World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour model railroad show kicks off its 2018 season. The show will visit 4 cities as follows:

• Monroeville, PA • January 6 & 7, 2018 – Monroeville Convention Center, Monroeville, PA

• Charlotte, NC • January 13 & 14, 2018 – The Park Expo & Conference Center, Charlotte, NC

• Houston, TX • February 3 & 4, 2018 – NRG Park Arena, Houston, TX

• Edison, NJ • March 10 & 11, 2018 – New Jersey Expo Center, Edison, NJ

While most model train shows cater to existing model railroaders and train collectors, these shows have a dual purpose. First, the events showcase model railroading to the general public in an entertaining and family-friendly environment. Second, they foster the exchange of ideas between model railroaders and the model railroad manufacturers and hobby retailers with personal conversation.

World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour allows those who build and sell our hobby’s products to understand what the customers who use those products need and desire. The show plants the seeds to grow the next generation of model railroaders, while allowing current hobbyists to see the best in operating model train layouts, new hobby products, and presentations.

These manufacturers will be displaying their products and talking with customers at all four shows:
• Athearn Trains
• Bachmann Trains
• Broadway Limited Imports
• Caboose Industries
• Kato
• Lionel Trains
• M.T.H. Electric Trains
• Piko
• Ross Custom Switches
• ScaleTrains.com
• Walthers

These manufactures will be displaying at some of the shows, check the website WGHshow.com for details as to which specific cities they will be in:
• Atlas Model Railroad Co.
• Bowser Trains
• City Classics
• Deluxe Materials Limited
• Scenic Express
• Sundance Marketing

These shows have something for everyone. Attractions include:
• A free operating Thomas the Tank Engine ride for kids
• Operating models railroads, including one as large as 120 x 120 feet
• The Walt Disney Railroad Story Exhibit – featuring Michael Broggie
• Seminars and presentations in the Bachmann Theatre
• A chance to talk with manufacturers and see their latest products
• Retailers with special show-only low prices

Tickets are now on sale. You can save $2.00 on the ticket price by using discount code W22 and purchasing your ticket at least 1 week in advance at http://wghshow.com/purchase-tickets/. Buy tickets for your family and bring someone not in the hobby to get them excited about model railroading.

  1. Likewise here in Denver. I think we were on the first round of shows. Nothing since. Only four shows in a year? Not much exposure. I think we have more manufacturers at our local Rocky Mountain Train Show to be held first weekend of March, so probably no real loss of their not coming. Still, it does show where their interests and concentration are centered. As stated earlier, disappointing!

  2. They’ve been to Salt Lake City once only, perhaps they’ve forgotten or are unaware that there are states and people west of the Mississippi? Really disappointing.

  3. They were supposed to bring the Worlds Greatest Hobby show to Omaha this year but it seems now they are not. Hope they bring the show here soon. They were here in 2010 and it was great!
