One of my favorite things to do in our hobby of model railroading is to build wooden bridges. Big ones or small ones… They are all fun to me. The only problem I seem to have is getting the finished product to be a prototypical color.

One of the manufacturers I buy my bridge kits from is a company called Hunterline Kits (From Canada). They have a wonderful first class line of wood kits in a variety of scale sizes. (And they are great folks… Give them a call: http://www.hunterline.com/)

After buying a number of kits from Hunterline, I noticed they also offered a “secret” weathering mix. I have tried a number of commercial products with mixed results, and thought I might as well try their coloring mix.

As it worked out, just about the time I received my little bottle of coloring mix from Hunterline I was completing a small bridge kit. So it was off to the spray booth to give this new product a try.

I found the Hunterline coloring mix to spray on evenly and smoothly. It seems to be an alcohol-based product, which means clean up is a snap. I did find you need to make sure to thoroughly shake the mix before use.

And the final finish was just as I had wanted. Not too dark and not too light. After drying (which only takes a few minutes) I found the color was as close to the original as I could ever expect.

All things considered, I will be useing the Hunterline coloring mix on my next wooden bridge kits. Give it a try… I think you will like it!
