The Atlas HO scale EMD GP40 is back for another run, this time with ditch lights on select road names. Join Model Railroader senior editor Cody Grivno as he points out the features on the four-axle road switcher, demonstrates some of the light and sound features, and switches cars on the Jones Island section of the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy.

New paint schemes on the Atlas HO scale EMD GP40 include CP Rail (red with CP Rail lettering and ditch lights); Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (blue and yellow warbonnet); CSX (gray, blue, and yellow and maintenance of way, both schemes with ditch lights); Maine Central (blue and white with Guilford herald); Missouri-Kansas-Texas (green and yellow); and Port Harbor (Honoring First Responders scheme with ditch lights). New road numbers are offered on models decorated for Denver & Rio Grande Western (orange and black), Penn Central (black, with and without red “C” in herald), and Union Pacific (Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray). In addition, Atlas has reissued Susquehanna No. 3040 (yellow and black scheme with ditch lights).

Features on the Atlas EMD GP40 include an injection-molded plastic shell, die-cast metal underframe, golden-white light-emitting-diode lighting, positionable drop steps, and a detailed cab interior with two painted crew figures. The Master Line model also has factory-installed windshield wipers, painted grab irons, uncoupling levers, m.u. hoses, and trainline hoses. The locomotive includes modeler-installed cab sunshades.

Direct-current models with a factory-installed speaker are priced at $189.95. Versions with a dual-mode ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder sell for $299.95. Add $10 to models with ditch lights.
