Badger Air-Brush has a new edition of its model 200 bottom-feeding airbrush. Like all other versions of the Badger 200, it’s a single-action (the trigger controls airflow only), internal-mix brush, but the new 200-20 “detail airbrush” incorporates several changes.

Early model 200s came with a conical cap, and more recent versions included a crown (serrated) cap to reduce paint buildup on the cap that can spatter. This new 200-20 comes with a very short, smooth conical cap that’s just long enough to protect the needle. Likewise, while other 200s have a smooth aluminum handle, the 200-20 has three rubber “O” rings around the handle to provide a better grip. It also includes a larger trigger and comes with only one needle/tip size (fine).

The most intriguing feature of the new brush, however, is the adjusting screw at the rear of the needle, which includes a marked collar intended to allow users to keep track of how far they have opened the brush. Given the need to close a single-action internal-mix brush like the 200 if you stop spraying for more than a few seconds (to prevent paint drying and clogging on the tip), this is a useful feature, especially with acrylics. The 200-20 includes a pair of paint bottles, a wrench, and a siphon cup.

Badger model 200 airbrushes have always been comfortable to use, simple to maintain, and capable of spraying fine lines or entire models. Earlier versions required frequent tip cleaning when spraying more viscous media, and the unpredictability that comes when opening or closing the tip repeatedly could be frustrating. Thanks to its improvements, the new 200-20 should be even more popular. It’s an especially attractive choice for airbrushers who prefer the simplicity of a single-action airbrush.
