A sample from the latest run of Broadway Limited HO scale EMD GP35 diesel locomotives paid a visit to our Winston-Salem Southbound layout. Join Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno as he shares a brief history of the four-axle road locomotive and Burlington Northern No. 2510, points out the details on the plastic and die-cast metal model, and demonstrates the various light and sound functions on the Paragon4-equipped locomotive. Then see the GP35 in action as it works the industries on the WSS Tar Branch.
In addition to Burlington Northern (Great Northern patchout), the Broadway Limited HO scale EMD GP35 is decorated for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (blue-and-yellow bookend scheme); Chessie System with Baltimore & Ohio reporting marks (blue, vermillion, and yellow); Canadian Pacific (maroon and gray with script lettering); Chicago & North Western (green and yellow); Conway Scenic (yellow and green with high short hood); and Great Northern (simplified Empire Builder scheme). Unless noted, all models have a low short hood. The GP35 is offered in one to four road numbers per scheme.
The HO scale Electro-Motive Division GP35 features an ABS body, die-cast metal chassis, dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder featuring Rolling Thunder, back-electromotive-force control, and a built-in capacitor pack. The Broadway Limited Imports model also has railroad-specific details and many separate, factory-applied parts, including handrails, grab irons, windshield wipers, and etched-metal grills.
Models with a dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder featuring Rolling Thunder are priced at $374.99. Direct-current models (Stealth series) sell for $249.99. The GP35 has a minimum operating radius of 18”.
