We’re turning the clock back to the 1960s on the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy State Line Route for our latest product review video. This time around we’ll take a look at the N scale Alco RSD5 from Atlas. Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno provides a brief history of the six-axle road switcher and Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe No. 2155; points out the molded and separate, factory-applied details on the model; and demonstrates the sound and light effects on our review sample, which is equipped with an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder. The video concludes with footage of the road unit leading a freight train through Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.

Road names on the N scale Alco RSD5 from Atlas include Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (blue and yellow pinstripe scheme); Chicago & North Western (yellow and green); and Central RR of New Jersey (RSD4, green and yellow). The model is offered in two road numbers per scheme; an undecorated version is also available.

Features on the N scale Alco RSD5 include a multi-piece injection-molded plastic body consisting of the long and short hoods, cab, and sill unit; a revised chassis; and clear window glazing. Freestanding details on the body include two single-chime air horns, a brake wheel, and plastic handrails and stanchions. The model is equipped with body-mounted Accumate plastic couplers.

Direct-current models with a factory-installed speaker have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $139.95. Versions with an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder are priced at $239.95. Subtract $10 for undecorated models.
