An N scale Reading T-1 from Broadway Limited recently visited our Milwaukee, Racine & Troy State Line Route layout. Join Senior Editor Cody Grivno as he gives a short history of the full-size 4-8-4; points out the many separate, factory-applied details on the model; and demonstrates the light and sound functions on the Paragon4-equipped steam locomotive. Then sit back and enjoy watching the Reading Co. No. 2101 in action as it leads an excursion train through southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
Paint schemes on the model include Reading Co. (in-service and Iron Horse Rambles excursion schemes, three road numbers each), American Freedom Train, Blue Mountain & Reading, Chessie Steam Special, Christmas fantasy scheme, Conrail steam special fantasy scheme, Delaware & Hudson Centennial scheme (with smoke deflectors), and Independence Day fantasy scheme. The N scale Reading T-1 from Broadway Limited is offered in one number per scheme unless noted. The 4-8-4 is also available painted black but unlettered.
Features on the 4-8-4 include a die-cast metal locomotive body and chassis, an operating smoke unit with on/off switch, Magne-Matic compatible couplers, wire handrails, and rubber tires on one driver for additional tractive effort. The model will operate on code 55, 70, and 80 rail. Versions with a dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder have a built-in capacitor pack. The 4-8-4 has a minimum operating radius of 9.75”.
