The ScaleTrains HO Rivet Counter Trinity reefer recently arrived at the Model Railroader offices. Join Senior Editor Cody Grivno as he provides a brief history of the full-size BNSF Ry. cars, points out the various details on the contemporary freight car, and demonstrates how the sound and light functions work. Then see two of the cars in action in a short freight train and watch them get spotted at Troy Cold Storage on our Wisconsin & Southern staff layout.

ScaleTrains offers the Trinity 82-foot, 7,883-cubic-foot-capacity refrigerator car decorated for BNSF Ry. with Carrier and Thermo King (early and late) mechanical refrigeration units in eight road numbers each. The models are based on cars from BNSF’s 793000 through 793809 series.

Features on the ScaleTrains HO Rivet Counter Trinity reefer include an injection-molded plastic body; die-cast metal Type E lower-shelf couplers; and American Steel Foundries 100-ton trucks with raised foundry data, truck-mounted brake beams, and Timken rotating bearing caps. The 36” machined metal wheelsets have a .110” tread that will operate on code 70, 83, and 100 rail. The car has a minimum radius of 22” and a recommended radius of 24”.

The ScaleTrains HO Trinity reefer is priced at $54.99 (without sound) and $89.99 (with sound). Though the model is sold out at the manufacturer, the refrigerator car can still be found at brick-and-mortar and online retailers.

  1. Ironic. A modern car with no rivets as a Rivet Counter release. Guess they are easy to count here. Chuckle.
