The buildings in the kit are an open shed/garage (footprint is a scale 28 x 47 feet), two identical small sheds (22 x 55 feet each-only one is pictured), a large shed with dock (41 x 63 feet), an open canopy (22 x 42 feet), and an office (22 x 31 feet).
The first page of the four-page instruction sheet has a history of the lumber industry and suggestions for using the kit on any layout from the late 1950s to the present. The other three pages contain exploded-view drawings of each structure, with parts called out, plus written instructions. Directions for adding the decals (for Mills Bros. Lumber or Midtown Construction Materials) are also included.
I only ran into one problem during construction. Be aware that part numbers referred to in the step-by-step instructions don’t always match those in the drawings. Follow the part numbers in the drawings; they are correct.
Out of the box the wall sections were a bright, shiny red and the base and roof sections were white. With the parts still on the sprues I airbrushed the walls Polly Scale Boxcar Red and the base and roof sections UP Harbor Mist Gray. I later went back and brush-painted the support poles for the open canopy D&RGW Building Brown.
Assembly went quickly and easily and everything fit together without a problem. On the small sheds be especially careful to align the walls properly so you will be able to slide the doors into their tracks.
After the liquid plastic cement dried on all the buildings, I touched up the paint, added the decals, and weathered everything with pastel chalks.
This plastic structure kit will work well whether you’re a beginner looking to construct a scene, you need parts for kitbashing, or you want storage buildings for existing industries.
