Comments: A highly detailed parlor car based on Pullman plan 3416 is now available for HO scale passenger service. Parlor cars offered more space and more luxurious daytime accommodations than regular coaches. The model has rooftop ductwork indicating that it represents an air-conditioned car.
The Walthers car shown is in the New York Central’s two-tone gray livery, which first appeared in 1948. The striping and lettering are straight and match prototype photos. The NYC purchased these cars, built in the late 1920s, from Pullman in 1942. The model includes user-applied car name decals for Pullman 28-1 parlors leased by the NYC, but by the era of our sample’s paint scheme, the railroad had replaced car names with numbers.
The model’s dimensions and floor plan match Pullman plan 3416C. The six-wheel truck wheelbase of the model is HO scale 10′-6″. Some 28-1 parlors, had an 11′-0″ truck wheelbase.
The model is available in several road names as well as undecorated. With its high level of detail inside and out, the model provides another common heavyweight car for HO scalers to easily expand their passenger car fleets.
