Part of Athearn’s Genesis series of superdetailed locomotives, this HO scale Electro-Motive Division SDP40F models Amtrak’s first purpose-built locomotive. The model also comes equipped with a new SoundTraxx Tsunami2 Digital Command Control (DCC) sound decoder. See and hear the HO scale SDP40F in action as it hauls an Amtrak train along the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy main line.

  1. The Amfleet cars are HEP and the SDP40F’s were not equipped to provide hotel power to them. These diesels did have wiring for it, but even that was not compatible with the Amfleet or Superliners that followed. The P30CH’s and F40PH’s were built ready for HEP service. The SDP40F’s did not last long in Amtrak service. However, the Amfleet and Superliners of the 1970’s are still in service today and are older than the Heritage Fleet cars they replaced.

  2. Got one of the DC models with some of the money I got for Christmas. It’s an awesome model. Looking forward to the release of the early pointed-nose version as well as seeing these in Phase 2 and (hopefully) Phase 3. I also made a video of my new locomotive (first new locomotive in 20 years) and put it up on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jrA6N-yndw&t=5s
