  1. After watching this preview I went out to my local hobby shop, Hobbies Unlimited and bought one. Took it out of the box at the SLHRS layout and had the time of my life. Great Sound and it has so much more I can program into it for more realism. First engine with Soundtraxx and it is Awesome, Thanks for the Previews, Charlie

  2. the vidoe was so broken up made it hard to enjoy watching that gp 9 other than that i feel that haveing 4 or 5 of them would be a good set for my 1008' foot layout the corrales, chama & rio grand rr

  3. Not knowing much about the sound systems now available for HO trains, information like this hepls me to select a system for my layout.
Excelent reveiw and keep up with these types of articals, short and to the point.

  4. I can recall having the same locomotive from Athearn as a kid in 1966….well, maybe not the exact same. Let's see, it didn't have any sound, not quite as crisp a paint job, no DCC, no flashing headlamp, and no operating magnetic knuckle couplers. Sure am glad the new one is available!

  5. I purchased one to check out the detail and found some problems with the GP9. Athearn has now announced in an email they are going to retool and fix the problems. It does look nice from a distance and most will be very happy with it if they do not compare it to the drawings of the real one.

  6. DL, a search engine shows that GP9 was offered with dynamic brakes, maybe some were without too, I don't know. The Western Maryland roster I found showed all theirs had dynamic brakes.

  7. Looks and sounds great to me but I am not a rivet counter,
Black Widow, paint job on S.P. with all the lights looks fantastic.

    ( I want some )

  8. OOPS, my error. I hit the wrong number key. I hit the 7 instead of the 9 key. Sorry about that!

    OTHER INFO STILL STANDS.
