  1. Never trust an European to make an accurate American locomotive. UP Big Boys had a much deeper chuff & a very deep whistle. I'll giver 'er a 1

  2. Always been a fan of the BIGBOY and hope to buy one someday. This review and loved the dcc etc conversions.

  3. I am a Retired Australian Engineman {Engineer to you Guys} I even know that the Big Boy was fired with a Mechanical Stoker like our AD 60 Class Garretts…….A Human Fireman would not be in the race to keep the coal up to a giant like the big boy.

  4. I have a question. Can someone tell me why they included the sound of the fireman shoveling coal in this locomotive. Didn't all large locomotives have mechanical stokers by the time prototypes these were built, or is there more to this than meets the eye?

  5. Very nice, i agree i would have liked to seen it at speed to show off the sound. Love the weathering also.

  6. weathering is nice but i think the sound would have been better with a larger speaker as the bell and whistle seemed a bit too high pitched .i own one that about 5 years old and runs great but i added 6 oz weight inside boiler for a more prototypical pulling power but still a great model

  7. Great video. The weathering is really nice.My only problem is with the sound system. The real Big Boy's fire box was so large that a fireman wasn't able to shovel enough coal. Instead, a screw was used.

  8. THE sounds as portrayed in the video are not great very tinny like like, sounds not as good as either Athearn or BLI and the fireman, sounds like the sound engineers did not do there homework

  9. Seems to me that this video would've been better if it had been shot on the MR&T instead of the Troy Branch. On the MR&T, Dana could've brought that locomotive up to full speed and really shown off it's sound system.

  10. I didn't care for the sound system. It sounded tinny. Perhaps if as another reader mentioned if it was on the MR&T it may have sounded better.
