This new Kato USA passenger model train marks the first time that the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy’s Silver Streak Zephyr has been available as a ready-to-run N scale model. The passenger cars and the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) E5 diesel-electric locomotive feature all-new prototypically accurate tooling. Watch the video to see the train in action on our N scale model railroad. You can also read the full product review.

  1. It looks and runs great … but the Salt Lake Route (layout) is actually Nevada, not California! I love E5's and even though I can't really justify this train on my Pacific Northwest layout, I just have to have this. Thanks!

  2. HA! Kind of funny to see how now the HO modelers are asking for more of their scale stuff already in N, instead of the other way around. Times have changed.

  3. Really looks nice on the super elevated curves! The video was a bit jerky though – not sure if it's embedded or my Internet feed.

  4. I would guess that sound could be added with very little problem. The wireing would be installed in one of the cars with room to spare ?

  5. Wow! Sooo cool! Thanks for letting us see this in action. The details of the set were also very helpful. Do you have any plans for adding figures inside the cars, or any other modifications to the model?

  6. Pretty jerky video. Why couldn't you show some close-ups of the detailing, that's what the intro mentioned.

  7. As a G29 modeller, I understand having to include "coupler at correct height", because couplers are a mess in Gxx scale. Is it also a problem in the mini-world?

  8. Haven't run it yet – got it for display since I live right next to the trackage that the original ran on between Lincoln-Omaha. Will a HO version of the E5 from Kato be coming soon?
