Model Rectifier Corp. (MRC) makes a drop-in Digital Command Control (DCC) sound decoder for a Kato USA N scale GG1 electric locomotive. Model Railroader senior editor Dana Kawala demonstrates some of the DCC decoder’s sound effects.

  1. I hope Noel is correct about the mic issue. That sounded horrible and at that level would be drowned out by all the other sounds on the layout. I have this model and its great. I wonder would I have to remove the Kato installed decoder to fit the MRC and would it be worth it if nobody could hear it?

  2. I have it installed and it sound much better than that. I believe it was the microphone pick up. My sound is deeper and louder.
