For those of us that subscribed to MRVP more recently, it’d be very helpful to include the year the May issue is from.
Metroliners look great; however, to be prototypical when they arrived on PRR, they should consist of a 6 car set! Because the drew a great deal of power, Amtrak cut them down to 4 car sets. They would hit speeds of 135 in the corridor between Philadelphia and New York. These models are excellent.
The HO scale Walther 85' Budd Metroliner EMUs in the video are beautiful. I purchased a few Walther Metroliners before I saw this video. Seeing the video for the first time inspired me to purchase more Metroliners. I enjoyed reading Dana Kawala's review of the Metroliner in the May 2014 issue of Model Railroader. Nice job, Dana!!!
great video,i wish I was working on a ho scale train layout..my train layout is o scale…love there trains
Interesting models, and neatly done. I have one question about the sound; do these units have diesel generators in case the overhead fails? Sure sounded like a small diesel/gas generator when the train was both standing at the station or running. I did find the braking function to be a neat addition.
These look like well-detailed, nicely running models. The only discordant note for me was the pantographs extending too high (perhaps searching for the non-existent catenary!).
I feel this model is fulfilling an area many modelers have wanted for some time, Walthers is to be congratulated for filling this void. The sound was excellent especially the horn, which did not have the tinny sound as found in many of the sound systems offered today.
The Metroliners were the forerunner of the Acela Trains that run on Amtrak now. They began life on Penn Central in 1968 just right after the merger. The Metroliner was to be have been run by the Pennsylvania Railroad but then came the Penn Central merger and the rest they say is history. President Richard Nixon was the first American President to ride on the Meroliner as did other famous people including comedian Red Skelton. This train I would get if I were modeling the famed Northeast Corridor from Boston, MA to Washington, DC. It is a real nice train and I would have all five cars on this train and it would go good if I were to model the NEC. Maybe that would be another project for me to work on at some point.
Love the detail, I think I have to invest in a few of these.
The cars look great. I think the passengers in the cars are a bit transparent though. The lighting illuminates the seats nicely though.
