An HO scale 60-foot double-door auto parts boxcar is back in the Walthers product lineup. Join Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno as he reviews the Mainline series car, based on a Pullman-Standard (PS) prototype.

The Walthers auto parts boxcar has updated tooling featuring new car sides; 10- and 6-foot doors; a separate, factory-applied brake wheel and ladders; 70-ton trucks; 33” metal wheels mounted on plastic axles; and Proto-Max metal couplers mounted in swinging draft-gear boxes.

Paint schemes on the Walthers auto parts boxcars include Penn Central (Deepwater Green), Conrail (brown with “can opener” herald), CSX (brown with black doors), Erie Lackawanna (brown with diamond herald and “Cushioned Car” lettering), Norfolk & Western (black), Rock Island (brown with “Cushion Underframe” lettering and “When Empty Return to Peoria, Illinois” stencil), St. Louis Southwestern (brown with “Cushion-Car” lettering), and Union Pacific (yellow and silver with Union Pacific Railroad shield herald and “Automated Railway, Cushioned Load” logo). Each road name is offered in three road numbers.

A ready-to-run undecorated car with modeler-installed detail parts (side and end ladders, brake wheel, etc.) is also available. The boxcars are priced at $34.98; undecorated models sell for $29.98.
