Tried the preshading technique last night on a 36’ CNR Fowler Boxcar resin kit, worked great. You really don’t have to be neat about it at all. Next time I’ll try to cover up the shading a little less but I’m still satisfied with the results. Great tutorial.
great show Aaron
Bob, pre-shading wouldn’t work on a pre-painted model. The idea behind preshading is to apply the shadows before the overcoat is applied. In your case, I’d use post-shading or washes to add the shadows to the car. Aaron, since many boxcar roofs are galvanized steel, thus are somewhat silver color, would you still apply a darker black pre-shade?
This car had no markings on it. If it had, would the decal’s need to be removed first? How would that work?
Great seeing an “other way” of weathering.
Please no military.
Very nice! Great technique!
Beats the heck out of putting on a bunch of different colors, then taking them off to show the layering effect of weathering.
I am speechless, that pre-shading technique is amazing and very true to life. I will be performing that procedure for sure! And thank you for showing the definition of “mud chutes” 🙂
This is a great series. The technique of pre-shading is a really useful idea.Ii learn something from every episode. Makes MRVP worthwhile.
Really neat technic, the pre-shading effect on the box car looks great!!
