  1. this video made me think about my childhood. The music made it just that much better. The layout to me is wonderful. It reminded me of meeting my grand parents at the train when they came to Saskatoon.

  2. Awesome, great detailing….. Truly one of the best layouts, I've seen in awhile. Wish there was more video

  3. I grew up near Albany (near NYC's Selkirk Yard), and my father worked in the D&H Building, just south of Union Station. There was 2 levels, with the D&H and NYC west shore commuter trains using the lower level and the NYC had 4 tracks through on the upper level. Part of the "water level route". Brings back memories.

  4. A magnificent modeler, and first class video presentation that here is far, far too short. Any plans for an hour+ feature?

  5. Outstanding layout; beautifully done. The weathering of the locomoives, coaches and rolling stock very realistic. Ditto for the buildings, scenery and trackwork.

  6. Loved the article, loved the video! Vic has imbued his layout with incredible realism by his expert weathering of buildings, rolling stock, and locomotives. Vic's intuitive modeling techniques enable us to descend into his scenes and transport ourselves back into the romantic golden age of railroading.

    An additonal comment of note….I can't recall another modeler who has attempted to depict the track pans for taking water on the fly, but Vic has accomplished that feat admirably. I guess it is beyond even the advanced technology of today to believably simulate the spectacle of water spray clouds produced as a speeding passenger engine refills its tender at 60 mph! Maybe with a couple of microfan-equipped smoke units in the tender's belly? I'd pay good money to see that. Maybe Ernie Emrich will design such a kit?

    Anyway, congrats to Vic Roman on a masterfully built and scenicked layout.

  7. Great layout, great photography/editing & sound track. Liked the panoramic shots, too. Helps put it 'in context' & adds to the 'awe' of the quality involved.

  8. I agree with STEPHEN VICARS from WV comment. I love hearing the sounds of the layout also . . . trains and surroundings, but I feel the music was a good match. The sound bed is reminiscent of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind." Stephen, I would watch a tour of a WV layout and love it no less with some good Blue Grass in the background. The music adds to the layouts sense of place.

  9. Outstanding layout, excellent video and very appropriate music. I love the NYC and it's great seeing it as the theme of a superb layout. The water pans are a feature seldom seen modeled, if ever.

  10. Great layout, good camera work, but I don't like the music. When I watch a train video I would rather hear the trains and not music.

  11. I echo what everyones been saying but I think Peter Leach said exactly how I felt after watching;

    Best 3 minutes I've had all day! Great layout, great filming/editing, and great background music!

    These videos are great additions to the articles!

  12. Great job on the layout and video. Please show us more. As many others have commented, who were the musical artists? Fantastic presentation.

  13. One of the GREAT layouts I have seen. The total production, lights, camera, etc. is a work of art. Somehow a 5 rating is inadequite. thanks, Joe

  14. Living in Wilmer, AL and born and raised in Brooklyn/Long Island, it made me very home sick. Great layout, great music, great job!!
