  1. This is amazing! Would have liked to see more of the layout and heard the chuff puff of the steamie. Great job, Don, and keep up the good work.

  2. Great work, Don! Appreciate the scale speeds of trains. Very fine scenery & you've captured the look of PA very well as I used to live there.

  3. fine layout would be more authentic if realistic train sound could be added but much appreciated regardless

  4. I've never met Mr, Shook personally, but he is a local legend around here, now I know why. I too like the music, but get the feeling it was made for the video.

  5. Great!! More, more, more layout tour videos. Longer please. I know videos are sold but I think being a subscriber should have its benefits. Thanks for expanding this kind of feature.

  6. A great video and also awesome scenery. Wish I had scenery that nice. Noticed a little wobble though as the Combine went across a
switchpoint near that grade crossing but other than that…WOW!

  7. This is a magnificent railroad as all the commenters have said. But I see another aspect that makes it attractive, which is the depth of the scenes. We have a tradeoff in layout design in how much space we allocate for scenery – one extreme being narrow shelves. Don's railroad takes the other direction and I think that's part of what makes it looks so very good in this video and the photos in the magazine.

  8. I am working on my basement trying to get it done by the spring, then I can start on building my little model empire. When I see layout like this it makes me crazy…

  9. Terrific layout!! Been going to EBT since I was a kid, and he's really nailed it…

A few more minutes of video would have been nice…

  10. I'm a Pennsy modeller and former regular MR subscriber. Really appreciated the excellent modelling/scenery etc of Don Shook. Also the video shots by Lou Sassi well very well executed. I realize that Kalmbach is located in the mid west and that must have considerable influence on your editorial & production choices over what railroads & models to feature. I do miss "the good old days" of the 1990's when you featured stories about folks who modelled PRR, B&O, Western Maryland, etc. It is rare these days when you do this so I applaud your choice to do the April issue which features Don Shook's beautiful layout. Also cuddos for the video I just saw. If you do more of this I'll subscribe again!
P.S I still buy occasion issues when I see things of interest and I thank you for allowing me as a former subscriber to get a freebie now & then.

  11. Terrific layout. Love the scenery and the video though too short is very well done. Trains were operated at nice scale speeds also. I'm a Pennsy modeller & really appreciate Don Shook's work especially the EBT as I'm familiar with that area of PA. Please pass on my praise to Lou Sassi & David Popp for the excellent video! Kalmbach keep up the good work!

  12. Verry nice! I volenter at the the Rockhill Trolley Museum which is next door to the East Broad Top RailRoad & Coal co., and I must say, The layout does look VERRY nice and real compered to the real EBT.

  13. Beautiful detail and very realistic looking. Looking over the track plan, in the issue, seems a lot of thought was given to track layout and scenery.

  14. I am a Pennsy only HO model railroader and enjoyed this video and have visited East Broad Top many times. Your article mentioned Mr Shook worked at a steel mill that manufactured railroad wheels. I worked at a steel mill in Latrobe, PA that also made railroad wheels. Great video–hope to see more of this layout.
