The Fox Hill Traction Co. and Fox Hill & Metuchen RR packs both a steam railroad and a trolley line on to an 18″ wide shelf layout. Set in the 1920s and 1930s, Fred Miller’s HO scale layout features urban scenery inspired by the northeastern United States. See the lines in action in this short video clip, and don’t miss the full article in the Model Railroader special issue, Great Model Railroads 2019!

  1. A special apology to the traction fans: I didn’t notice I had left two trolley poles up when Lou Sassi did the video. (I use two poles to initially clean the wire). By the way, the shelf layout shown is no longer… however a new one has appeared in another room, but only streetcars.

  2. Love to see those inter urbans, I mean trolleys! Spent 2 years + in Japan and rode what we then called street cars in both Yokohama and Tokyo, back in 1964….cost only small change in those long gone days to ride. What fun.

  3. Beautiful work by Fred Miller. I remember seeing a modular traction line by Fred several years ago at a NMRA event. His work is outstanding and he is a great ambassador for the hobby.
