Take a video tour of the layouts featured at this year’s Model Railroader Layout Progress 2010. You’ll see layouts of past and present Kalmbach Publishing Co. employees, including Senior Editor Jim Hediger’s HO scale Ohio Southern and Managing Editor David Popp’s N scale Naugatuck Valley.

  1. I know now that after watching these videos that I have so much to learn about this hobby (being a newbie), you guys have alot of great ideas.

  2. This looks nice but the "event" noise in the back ground is distracting. I politely recommend sound mixing the background "social" noises to a lower level so as not to detract from some excellent layouts.

  3. I thought it was pretty amazing how complete David's layout looked after only 1 year of work.

I'm from ohio, so the southern oh ry got my attention.

    All of them were great!!

  4. Thanks to Chuck for the follow-up to my question. I'm looking forward to seeing the 2011 update.

  5. Interesting as always. I like the laid-back attitude of these home layout tour videos.
Any chance of seeing more of Chuck Sable's layout. I just built a basement about the same size, and it's in need of a track plan 🙂

  6. Great work everybody! David, I must mention that your layout inspired me to change from HO to N. It was a difficult transition but thank you. It is a decision I'll never regret.

  7. Some very nice layouts. I got a couple of good ideas for the N scale I am about to start. It is good to be able to see what other people have done and the time line that it has taken them. A job well done to you all

  8. Great Layouts, guys. I was especially intrigued by Neil's Tinplate Layout. That looks outstanding and it's great to see that there are people out there that still enjoy that aspect of the hobby and not just have those items inside of locked shelves to look at. Also enjoyed David's beautifully scenicked Naugatuck Lines layout.

  9. thank you it great see that persons behind model railroader have showing what new on the layouts. It great to see a DVD one day come out showing the layouts of members of the model railroader,
as live in Australia and wound like to by the DVD on members layouts.

  10. I don't know how you can do all that great precision detail work! My hat is off to you all. I have been tinkering with my little N gauge 3' x 5' layout on and off for a few years and still haven't settled on the final track plan, much less started on scenery. Keep up all the great work.

  11. Amazing layouts from all of you gentlemen, scenery, backdrops, and great detailing that's what makes this hobby so great!! Now, when are we going to see the MR Club layout(MR&T) on DVD in it's fullest? I know we have been asking that question for sometime now. But, it would really be nice to see new updates that you have done? I have finially moved into a home, that i can start with ideals to dream, plan, and start building my DT&I, Amtrak(long travel), Metrolink commuter service(Ann Arbor to Port Huron) route (freelance). Jim knows abot that distance. I live in Ypsilanti. Orgin Detroit.

  12. Thank you gentlemen for taking us home with you. It's always enjoyable to see others work and this is no exception. In all, this is a nice production; friendly and warm, just like visiting any friend's home with a nice selection of music! Keep up the great work.

  13. I really do injoy your the films you do on all you layouts I think that they give us model railroader something to look forward to & cody I know what you might be building in your basement is got to be real good I can't be this year because I'am heading to dearborn mich to see the Ford Museum this year

  14. video motivated me to think about n gage, I have been a died in the wool HOer for years and was impressed by the videos in N gage. Once the scenery and trains are running the impression I had of smallness is gone! Love those long trains which are impossible on my two medium size HO layouts. I think if I purchase the latest MR book on N gage I might be hooked! Anyhow you guys at MR do a great job . My only problem is trying to make my layouts as neat and professional as you guys but with the help of MR my skills have improvd over the years, for that a big THANKS!

  15. Loved the tour, guys!! Its nice to see video of your individual home layouts. Great work! I am in the track laying phase of my own home layout. It is loosely based on a layout design from the MR layout trackplan section. It is an "L-shaped" shelf layout. I am taking photos as I work, and will be submitting them to MR sometime in the future (in hopes of being featured in your pages). I do have a video of it on youtube. You can search for the "Briggs Canyon Railroad", it is just the benchwork with some track laid. Thanks again for the Progress Tour!!
