Once again I’m blown away by his layouts! Just a thought about sound while video graphing layouts…
Due to the minuscule size of our layouts compared to the acoustics in the prototypical actual world, some physics come into play. As a train is approaching in the real world, we all know that the sounds volume and definition increases, likewise for the train passing and then the sound decreases.
Due to the rooms and confined spaces we work in in modeling, we cannot achieve this phenomenon realistically unless we have lines that are 50′ or more long; the microphones are just too good at picking up sound.
A tweaking solution would be that during recording, we use the sound level adjustment on the camera to gradually increase then decrease the engine sound volume (can do this also with the decoder) as the train recedes into the distance or around a bend.
If you want to try this out pro-forma, you can do so with the volume control on your computer (use the slider, not the buttons for better graduation).
When recording, sound control works best although as the crossing clickety-clack stays the same volume while the train noise from the locomotive increases or decreases by itself.

The road crossing scene looks to be the road north of Mojave that runs east from Hwy14 to California city and the background mountain scene shows a picture of that area. Really Nice !!!!!! Pelle does the best job of this type of model railroading of any I know.

If the guy on the front of the unit is TE&Y, his vest would be HiVis Yellow, not orange. Orange is for maintainers.
Pele is an artist. I am constantly finding new details in his work every time I get to see his layout. I am really looking forward to seeing what he does with his new “Iowa-Nebraska” midwest layout!
Why is this video listed in the “new” section on 8/30/16 when I watched it 2 years ago when it first appeared along with all the comments from 2 years ago?
The rail crossing scene at 2:00 had me pause just to look at the way the road transitioned to the backdrop. It looks absolutely real.

My Goodness! What a wonderful layout. I really appreciate showing the entire layout at the end of the video. It shows what can be done in a certain "average" track layout. Certainly nothing average about the work done or presentation. Wow! Thanks for the inspiration.
pelle is with out a doubt one of the top modelers today and in the top 5 overall all time and i have seen them

once again his master abilities prove that even a simple oval layout can be museum treasure, Could you imagine when and if Pelle's interest change from desert say to Northern California or the Rockies. I believe any project coming from him would have the level of detail and attention of these signature layouts, well done indeed!
