Where to get new numbers for the hopper car?
I recall “back in the day” that MR or TRAINS did a diesel locomotive history by year. It was a general chart of when the diesel loco was introduced and basic retirement date. Can you tell me where that chart is located?
Who cut your hair?!? 😛
Cody: Re: The FP-7 A and B. You didn’t mention if both are powered and sound-equipped, or is the sound only in the A unit? The prices would seem to indicate both have sound. I may not be the only one wondering. Please clarify. Thanks.
I remember the article on City switching. I can’t remember the name. You know you found it when you find the track plan had the building in different colors. I think it was a 4 by 6 layout. I have been looking for it my self.
Vincent, see my comment above. The article I was looking for is from the March 1986 issue, page 100. And the layout is 2×7 feet in HO scale. I’m planning to do an N scale version, in 15×48 inches, using Atlas code-80 turnouts and flex-track.
Another great switching track plan is the “Third Street Industrial District” found on page 116 of the November 1985 issue. It measures 2×10 feet, in HO. I think these two layout might be interesting if combined.
Thanks Cody.
Great episode, good to see bloopers added to the end again. After all we all aren’t perfect like you guys at MR. LOL
Michael, for the urban railroad, you could also check out the series “Boston’s Union Freight Railroad” by John Pryke” that started in the Sept 2000 edition, and continued to Dec 2000, with a painting special in Jan2001. I found the series inspirational.
Thanks Robert. As you say, that is quite the inspirational layout.
Thank you for addressing my question Cody. As luck would have it I finally found the track plan I was looking for. I was a little off on the article’s title. The correct title is “Railroading for City Lovers” and was published on page 100 of the March 1986 issue of MR. Again, thank you for your assistance.
When using old decals, I will first tape them securely (taped on both ends or all 4 corners so that they don’t curl up) to a board and then give them a light coat of clear gloss or Testor’s Decal Bonder. This will insure that they will not disintegrate.

Hi Cody
I’m trying to find a custom decal maker for my home road. Would you have any suggestions. I’m also kit bashing a SOO Line combine from an article in MR that used a Rivarosi combine. But I can’t seem to find it. Could you help?
Regards Bob Summers
Another great episode of the “office”. Good to see you guys back in the shop and by the layout. Not sure about hissing at trains though 🙂 Thanks Cody.
Hi Cody, Thanks for the latest episode. Here’s my question: are we ever going to see Jenny in any more MRVP videos?
Hi Cody, another great episode, and great to see you back in the office. What about the Micro Sol and scotch tape technique you used to show for removing the numbers on the covered hopper.
