BOULDER, Colo. — Two crew members were treated at a hospital and released after a BNSF train derailed Thursday night, KDVR-TV reports.
The incident was originally reported by Boulder police as a collision of two trains, but BNSF subsequently confirmed a single train was involved. At least one report says the train hit a group of stationary railcars. A rail bridge was damaged in the incident, and some diesel fuel was spilled as a result; initial concerns that fuel was leaking into nearby Boulder Creek proved to be unfounded.
The collision occurred at 11:13 p.m., a BNSF spokeswoman said. Some fuel spilled as a result of the incident but did not reach nearby Boulder Creek. A power line was downed by the incident, knocking out power overnight to 92 households near the incident, the Denver Post reports.
